1. Is Ecuador a safe country for international volunteers?

Yes. While it's important to take standard travel precautions, Ecuador is generally safe for volunteers, especially in small towns and organized programs. Our team ensures safe housing, transportation, and guidance throughout your stay.

2. What languages are spoken in Ecuador?

Spanish is the official language. Some indigenous communities also speak Kichwa. English is not widely spoken, so learning basic Spanish is recommended—but not required.

3. Do I need a visa to volunteer in Ecuador?

Most U.S. citizens can enter Ecuador for up to 90 days without a visa. For longer stays, a volunteer visa may be required. We assist with documentation if needed.

4. What is the climate like in Ecuador?

Ecuador has diverse climates. Quito and the highlands are cooler (50s–70s °F), the Amazon is hot and humid, and the coast is warm. Layers are recommended for changing conditions.

5. What vaccinations are recommended before traveling?

We recommend standard vaccinations like Hepatitis A/B, Tetanus, and Typhoid. If visiting the Amazon, Yellow Fever vaccination may be required. Consult your doctor before traveling.

6. Is Ecuador an expensive country?

No. Ecuador is generally affordable. Meals can cost $3–6, and public transportation is very cheap. The official currency is the U.S. dollar.

7. What should I pack for my volunteer trip?

Comfortable clothes, rain jacket, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, reusable water bottle, and any medications. We’ll send a full packing list after registration.

8. What types of volunteer projects are available?

We offer health brigades (medical/dental), teaching, environmental conservation, sustainable tourism, and community development in rural areas.

9. Will I have free time to travel?

Yes! We build time into the program for cultural visits, nature tours, and optional weekend trips to places like the Amazon, Baños, or the Galápagos (extra cost).

10. Why volunteer in Ecuador with Change for Ecuador?

Because we prioritize ethical, sustainable, community-based volunteering. You won’t just visit—you’ll connect, learn, and create lasting impact in local lives.
